25th Anniversary G.I.Joe Shockwave |
 |
Shockwave (no not the transforming
purple laser gun) the SWAT member of G.I.Joe was ready for an
upgrade. His original figure had some nice qualities to
it. I surprisingly liked the color combination and who
doesn't love masked characters? I found the rectangular
camouflage rather unusual. This is the same sort of
patterns used for Storm Shadow V2. What was even stranger
is that in the mix of these blue rectangles were a few yellow
colored ones. None of this made sense to me then and now.
However I do know that without them Shockwave is rather plain
looking. I also learned that these are incredibly
difficult to do by hand with a mid-level paint brush. I
wish I was more knowledgeable in painting techniques. My
only thought was creating a stencil but no stencil was going to
properly wrap around his arm or leg.
When all said and done, I am happy how he
came out and thanks to
www.marauderinc.com. I used their SWAT vest and I was
very impressed by the quality and detail. |

25th Anniversary G.I.JOE Kamakura |
 |
Kamakura is arguably the only post "Real
American Hero" character to have any impact on the 'Joe
universe. Perhaps the reason is because he is a ninja and
if there is one thing I've learned over the years of collecting
action figures is: Ninja's sell! He is also the pupil of
Joe favorite: Snake-Eyes. I normally don't embrace (with
great enthusiasm) anything after RAH but after a friend told me
he was thinking of doing a 25th Anniversary Kamakura, I totally
stole his idea (since I had an extra Storm Shadow laying around
and a couple extra minutes of time). I think he came out
rather nice. I chose the V3 incarnation because it was most
simple in design and I thought it was most appropriate for a
ninja. He was fairly simple. However, his skirt was
rather challenging. I had to extend the original to make
it fit. |

25th Anniversary G.I.JOE Snake-Eyes
V4 |
| Snake-Eyes Version 4 is perhaps the least popular
of all the Snake-Eyes figures ever made during RAH. I for one
liked it much better than Version 5 even though V5 had some potential.
I felt the same about Snake-Eyes version 4. I think the biggest
problem with the 3 3/4" figure was the orange. Hasbro was using a
lot of bright colors to help the figures stand out on toy shelves during
this series and beyond. Another issue was the blue sort of took
away from the usually all black mysterious commando. However, it
was when the 12" version of this figure came out that I really saw it's
potential. By eliminating some of the blue, giving him proper
weapons & using the orange only as the color of the transparent goggles
I think it really improved on this figure. I felt by combining
aspects of both figures, I could possibly redeem this outfit at least to
some.
I am satisfied with the results. I can't say
diehard Snake-Eyes fans are going to be clamoring for a similar like
version added to the exceptional 25th Anniversary line but nevertheless,
I had a great time making him. |

25th Anniversary G.I.JOE Python
Patrol Cobra Officer |
| I had so much fun customizing the Storm Shadow
(below) that I couldn't wait to start a new figure. Since the 25th
Anniversary figures are so hard to find at retail, I buy them when I see
them. I came across a Cobra Officer and wasn't sure who to make
out of him. I finally decided just to turn him into the Python
Patrol officer repaint. I thought it was going to be a lot easier
than it was. This figure was actually much more challenging then I
expected but still a lot of fun. I'm not sure the pictures do him
justice but I think it came out rather nice. |

G.I.Joe 25th Anniversary Ninja Force
Storm Shadow |
| Other than Snake-Eyes, Storm Shadow is arguably
the most recognizable and popular character in the G.I.Joe universe.
Hasbro was and is very aware of that. therefore, their are a
plethora of different Storm Shadow figures whether from the original 3
3/4" series or the Sigma Six series and now the new and spectacular 25th
Anniversary series! Although, I, like many other Joe fans love
Storm Shadow, I will admit to getting a little sick of him. There
is a such thing as over exposure. So, you may ask me: why would I
do Storm Shadow for my first attempt at a 25th Anniversary figure
custom? And a relatively unpopular uniform at that? Well,
it's simple: I had the appropriate parts and for my first try, I
wanted it to be something a little easier than tackling someone like
Fast Draw. Nevertheless, this figure was fun to do and still took
a couple days to complete. I look forward to this line being a
little easier to find on the toy shelves cause I've got several
characters I'd like to tackle. |

Alternators Bumbleebee by Andy Bruce |
| Here is one of the best Alternators customs I've
seen! The paint job is absolutely spectacular! It looks
factory painted. Andy used the Mazda RX-8 for Bumblebee which I
think is perfect since the cars design is very round similar to the VW
bug. What I think I like the best about this version of Bumblebee,
is the head. It is very unique yet it definitely screams
Bumblebee. I really like the lack of mouth I think it adds a great
uniqueness to a popular character that so many different customs have
been attempted. Great job Andy! I look forward to seeing
what's next! |

Vintage Carded Star Wars Figures |
 |
Okay, before you look at these and say
how horrible! Let me tell you I made these over twelve
years ago. This was before I had a computer and perhaps
before home computers could easily do something like this.
I basically did a lot of cutting & pasting by hand, putting it
all together and taking it to Kinko's for their highest quality
laser copying capabilities. I also did customize all the
figures and had to sculpt a head for the Cantina band member.
Looking at them now perhaps, they look a
little amateur but I assure you 12 years ago these were highly
regarded as great customs. I found them in one of my old
bins of goodies and just thought I might as well post them.

Protoform Waspinator |
 |
 |
 |
 |
Same as the Protoform Prime, I thought
this figure not only resembled Waspinator more than Starscream
but kinda fit in it's own universe. This was a lot of fun
to make and there are quite a lot of subtle details.
Unfortunately, my camera didn't really capture them well.

|
|
Protoform Optimus Prime "Prime
colors" |
 |
 |
 |
I really like this mold but I though the
colors were bland and even though it certainly isn't a ground
breaking idea, I decided to paint him in more traditional Prime
colors. Unfortunately, I don't think the pictures came out
that good but you can still get the basic idea. |

KID ROBOT Munny series custon |
 |
 |
 |
Kidrobot's Munny vinyl toys are a lot of
fun to make. It is a little more like art than a toy.
This is my first attempt at one. I have seen many other
designers make these and are far superior to what I have done
but it was fun nonetheless. I was going for a simple
design with complexities intertwined. Again, very fun! |
|

Transformers Alternators Springer |
 |
 |
 |
 |
I had a lot of fun with this one but it
was a lot of work. I wish I could have found a way to
better differentiate him from Tracks but an Alternator is an
Alternator and Springer did resemble Tracks quite a bit.

Transformers Alternators Roadbuster |
 |
 |
Here is my first attempt at an Alternator
custom and it was quite a challenge. I've always loved
Roadbuster so, I thought I'd give it a try. |

Gurney Halleck & Paul Atredes in Fremen outfit from Dune |

These were pretty basic
to make but they were definitely two figures I wished were released.

Skywarp, Starscream & Thundercracker Energon Seeker Jets
|
 |
 |
 |
These were a lot of fun to make! Nuff'
said. Made by Randy Herkowitz |
|
 |
This certainly isn't the most
exciting custom ever. However, I like it much more than the one
released in the "Battle in the Box" set. Made by Randy Herkowitz |
|
 |
 |
 |
 |
These are absolutely fantastic interpretations
of one of my favorite toys that I wrote a whole rant about in the
Ramblings section. I think these
customs make Blazord look even cooler than he already did! The
light blue one is ShadowerV2 and the dark blue one is ShadowerV3 Great
job! Made by Stacey Gan. |
|
|
BeastWars Transmetal Optimus Prime |
 |
This was a very fun
custom to make. It is simply a Transmetal Cheetor body painted up
to be Prime. I think Transmetal Cheetor was one of the coolest
Beast Wars figures and being an Optimus fan, I thought combining the two
would be a good idea. Made by Randy Herkowitz |
|
|
|
Here is another awesome Blazord custom by
Stacey Gan! This one is perhaps my favorite! The red
makes him look totally bad ass! Thanks! |

Yet another great Blazzord custom by
Stacey! This one is the "Rage V3: Vyper!"
